Diane Hoadley, dean of UW-Eau Claire's College of Business, has announced she will retire June 30. Hoadley has led the College of Business since fall 2010. Hoadley, who also served on the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce and Junior Achievement boards of directors during her tenure at UW-Eau Claire, plans to remain in Eau Claire following her retirement.

Literacy Chippewa Valley recently hired Elizabeth Hart to join its small team of dedicated employees at their Banbury office. Hart worked for CESA 10 in Education Technology as a distance learning French teacher and is the general manager of the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra. She earned a PhD in French from SUNY Buffalo, a master’s degree in comparative literature from UMASS-Amherst and a bachelor’s degree in music and comparative literature from UW-Madison. She is passionate about reading and wants to kindle that spirit in others.

Group Health Cooperative of Eau Claire recently held its 41st Annual Meeting where two Cooperative members were re-elected to the Cooperative’s Board of Directors, and one new member was elected. Re-elected and newly elected Cooperative Board members include:

• Lucas Salter – a Cooperative member through Trubilt Collision Center, where he is the automotive manager.
• Mary Steinke – a Cooperative member through Huebsch Services, where she is the general manager.
• Charity Zich – a Cooperative member through Eau Claire County, where she is the airport director of the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport.
  
  

The new Energy Education Center (EEC) at Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) has been recognized for its energy efficiency and green environmental features. Focus on Energy has selected the EEC as a 2016 Energy Efficiency Excellence Award Winner, while the U.S. Green Building Council has awarded the EEC LEED Gold certification. The EEC is the first LEED Gold Certified building in the Eau Claire area. U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) recognizes buildings, homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human health performance. There are four levels of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification: Platinum, Gold, Silver and Certified.

Nurse practitioner Aaron Jelinek recently joined the Critical Care Unit at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. Jelinek earned his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in nursing from UW-Eau Claire. Previously, he served as a nurse practitioner in the Infectious Disease and Travel Medicine departments at Marshfield Clinic and as a registered nurse in the Critical Care Unit at Sacred Heart Hospital, both in Eau Claire. Jelinek is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Wisconsin Nurses Association.

Prevea Health announced that Prevea Women’s Care is now available at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital. Prevea Women’s Care, featuring Michael Tiffany, DO, FACOG is dedicated to caring for women all of ages. Tiffany offers a variety of services including routine gynecologic, pregnancy, high-risk pregnancy and urogynecology care. He also performs minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery with laparoscopic and robotic medical technology.

The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau (BBB) Foundation Center for Character Ethics has announced that EO Johnson Business Technologies is among the finalists for its prestigious BBB Torch Awards for Ethics. The BBB Torch Awards for Ethics is a statewide competition that honors businesses and non-profit organizations who do business in Wisconsin and that demonstrate excellence in ethical practices, service excellence, reputation, honest advertising, peer recognition, management practices, and employee training in ethical behavior. This is the 12th award program by the Wisconsin BBB Foundation, a nonprofit organization. Award categories are based on the size of the company. Winners will be announced at the BBB Torch Awards luncheon ceremony on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the Harley-Davidson Museum® in Milwaukee.

Chippewa Valley Technical College is offering a series of three eight-week fully online classes leading to what is officially called an Unmanned Aerial Systems Certificate begins this summer. The certificate is designed to give the student a solid foundation in understanding unmanned aerial vehicle systems technologies, capabilities, regulations, safety and legal responsibilities. The three classes include UAS Fundamentals and Theory, UAS Operations, and Commercial UAS Policy Development. All classes will be fully online, with operations training through a simulator. 

​Williams Diamond Center’s in-house jewelry designer, Teva Dekel, has completed his diamond graduate studies at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).  Fashion designer by trade, Dekel started designing jewelry for Williams in 2014.  GIA developed the 4Cs (color, clarity, cut and carat weight) and the International Diamond Grading system used and respected by professionals across the globe.  As a result of his studies, Dekel developed skills and expertise in diamond grading and evaluating. 

Library volunteer Dr. Grace E. Rich of Eau Claire was recognized for her outstanding service to the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library at the Friends of the Library recent annual meeting. Rich was the ninth recipient of the library’s Distinguished Service Award, which honors generosity of time and spirit and extraordinary contributions to a library-related issue. Rich has served as the volunteer book sale manager for Friends of the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library since January 2014.  She has implemented several changes that resulted in increased revenue and improved overall event aesthetics at Friends of the Library book sales. She instituted debit and credit card payments at the book sales to make it easier for customers to buy books, and she recently started an online book store.

Chamber President, Bob McCoy, executed his option to extend his employment for 2017, expiring on December 31, 2017.

Federal Overtime legislation: This would raise the salary threshold under which employees would have to be paid overtime for hours worked beyond 40 per week from the current annual level of $23,660 to $50,440.  Such a dramatic increase will force employers to decide whether to reclassify millions of employees to non-exempt status (pay by the hour), or increase their salaries to keep them exempt, which could be cause for employee reductions. The Chamber has signed on to a letter with thousands of Chambers, and the US Chamber to support a bill that would prevent the regulation from taking effect.

The Chamber has hired Chelsea Erickson as the new Graphic Designer/Staff Assistant, effective May 16, 2016.  She will replace Abby Filcher, who is moving to the Twin Cities area.  We welcome Chelsea and wish Abby the best in Minnesota.

Discussed the cuts to the UWEC system and what effect it could have for the future.  The Chamber will schedule a forum for Chamber members to hear from Chancellor Jim Schmidt about the impact and what he is hoping the business community can do to assist with encouraging the Legislators to not make further cuts. More details will be in The Update once a date/location are set.

Marco recently announced the introduction of a new Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) solution. The cloud-based service will be delivered through the company’s longtime technology partner Mitel. UCaaS enables clients to move a variety of their communication and collaboration applications to the cloud. The services are delivered through a public or private IP network.

Six individuals and organizations earned recognition from the Wisconsin Urban Forestry Council for their efforts to protect, preserve and increase the number of trees that line city streets, fill community parks and beautify neighborhoods throughout the state. The Wisconsin Urban Wood Network earned recognition from the Wisconsin Urban Forestry Council for its efforts to protect, preserve and increase the number of trees that line city streets, fill community parks and beautify neighborhoods throughout the state. The Wisconsin Urban Wood Network was recognized in the Innovations in Urban Forestry category for marketing urban wood, addressing an environmental need and supporting investment in private businesses. The Network was a class project for the Leadership Eau Claire™ Class of 2015.

The United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley honored area businesses and individuals who have shown significant support for United Way and to the community at the Chippewa Valley Spirit Awards. This year, the Nonprofit Excellence Award was given to Chippewa Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP) for their health initiatives to support healthy lifestyles and behaviors. CHIP is a community endeavor hosted by HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa Falls. In 1994, facilitated by St. Joseph's Hospital, a committee of 25 concerned individuals representing schools, churches, businesses, health and medical facilities, senior citizens, government agencies and the public at large saw the potential to create a healthier Chippewa Falls. In 2000, the initiative was so successful that it was expanded to cover the entire Chippewa County.

WESTconsin Credit Union announced Stephanie Rasmussen as vice president member experience, working from the Menomonie – East Administration Office. In her new role, Rasmussen’s focus will be assuring exceptional member driven experiences throughout the organization via all touch point interactions. Rasmussen joins WESTconsin from Royal Credit Union where she worked for 11 years, and most recently held the position of electronic payment specialist manager. She possesses a bachelor’s in public relations and English literature from UW-Eau Claire.

HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital announced that Judith Balcitis, RN, MSN, NE-BC has joined the hospital as chief nursing officer. Balcitis most recently served as the vice president and chief nursing officer at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Ill – a position she held since 2008. Prior to that, she held a variety of administrative nursing positions in hospital, home care and hospice settings. Balcitis earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Northern Illinois University and her master’s degree in nursing administration at the University of Illinois-Chicago.

LeadWell, Prevea Health’s comprehensive corporate wellness program, offers a wide range of customizable wellness solutions for businesses, all supported by premier health care specialists and designed to educate and empower employees to make choices toward healthier, more balanced lifestyles. Banaszynski is responsible for identifying and cultivating new business and developing further opportunities with existing clients for LeadWell, occupational health services and other retail products in the Chippewa Valley.
 

Royal Credit Union was recently honored with a Category’s Best Diamond Award, which recognizes outstanding marketing and business development achievements in the credit union industry. The award was presented by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Marketing & Business Development Council, a national network comprised of over 1,200 credit union marketing and business development professionals. Awards are given in each of 30 categories ranging from advertising to community events and beyond. Royal Credit Union won the Print Ad category for its entry, entitled Black Friday “Doorbusters.”

Prevea Health, a multi-specialty health care organization that recently expanded from Northeast Wisconsin to the Chippewa Valley region, is now offering corporate wellness and occupational health services in the Chippewa Valley. Junior Achievement of Wisconsin, Inc, Northwest District has announced that Kevin Renley, vice president at Market & Johnson, has been appointed to the JA Board of Directors. Renley began working at Market & Johnson in May of 2001 and 10 years later became a partner in the firm. Now as Vice President at Market & Johnson, he works as a project principle on many of the company’s projects, especially those within the healthcare industry.

Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) received the Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) 2016 Advocacy All-Star Award at the recent Association’s annual Advocacy Day in Madison. Therese Pandl, HSHS Eastern Wisconsin Division CEO, and Julie Manas, HSHS Western Wisconsin Division CEO, accepted the award before more than 1,000 hospital supporters participating in the day’s activities. The award is presented to one hospital or health care system each year that exemplifies dedication to grassroots advocacy. 
 
HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital has recently earned renewed accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for a period of three years for the hospital’s comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation program and comprehensive stroke specialty program. This means that both programs continue to meet the highest industry standards possible – ensuring risk reduction, accountability and the best possible patient outcomes. Sacred Heart Hospital has maintained CARF accreditation for its inpatient rehabilitation program since 1980, and for its comprehensive stroke specialty program since 2010. Sacred Heart Hospital has the only CARF-accredited acute inpatient rehabilitation and comprehensive stroke specialty programs in western Wisconsin

The Great Lakes Graphics Association (GLGA) has announced that Supreme Graphics of Arcadia has won 15 awards in the 2016 Graphics Excellence Awards competition. The GEA competition is one of the largest printing competitions in the nation. Supreme Graphics won seven Awards of Excellence and eight Certificates of Merit. The awards were given in the categories of booklets, calendars, product catalogs, annual reports, and folders.

​John Sackett, director at Royal Credit Union, was elected by acclamation to the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Board of Ddirectors for a full three-year term. Sackett has served as the District 4, Class C Board member since June 30, 2015 following the retirement of the previous representative. District 4, Class C represents credit unions with over 106,000 Members in Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri and Wisconsin. Sackett is the first volunteer elected to the CUNA Board since the 1996 Renewal Review recommendations changed the election procedures and composition of the Board. His term began following the adjournment of CUNA’s Annual General Meeting in Washington, DC on February 22, 2016 during the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference.

Laser Product Technologies has achieved one of the highest level of MPS certifications – earning the CompTIA MPS Trustmark, which is a business credential that serves as an industry standard, validating the professional support and procedures that IT solution providers follow with their clients. The Samuels Group announces that Tim Nordlund has been promoted to regional manager of construction operations. In this role, Nordlund is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the activities associated with the construction of projects. Nordlund has been with The Samuels Group since 1995.

Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) will offer a new fully online Professional Communication beginning with the Fall 2016 term. It will be an associate degree program and will offer advanced certificates for technical writing, grant writing and writing for media. CVTC developed the program after receiving feedback from an ad hoc committee that included representatives from business, non-profits, media, K-12 education and marketing professionals. The program will be offered in eight-week segments, with starting dates in August, October, January, March and June.

Marco has been named the winner of two 2016 Perfect Image Awards by imageSource Magazine in the categories of Dealer of the Year and Outstanding Leadership in Customer Engagement.  The prestigious awards program recognizes exceptional leadership and innovation in the office channel. Marco was one of just four organizations honored during a special reception at the annual ITEX National Conference and Expo.

Per Mar Security Services, a provider of total security solutions for residential and commercial clients based in Davenport, IA, has merged with Northern Wisconsin Security & Sound, Inc. of Arbor Vitae, WI.  
Both companies specialize in providing electronic security solutions for their customers. The addition of Northern Wisconsin Security & Sound, Inc. to the Per Mar customer base continues to build Per Mar’s presence in Wisconsin. Gordy's Market announced the addition of Joel Jacobson as vice president of sales. Jacobson brings more than 23 years of experience working with Gordy’s Market, holding roles as frozen and dairy clerk, store supervisor, store manager, beverage category manager, Valley Spirit’s category manager, bread category manager and senior director of non-perishables.

Six area residents are being honored for their work on behalf of children at the 2016 Children’s Legacy Luncheon on Thursday, April 21, 2016. The Honorees are being recognized for making important and lasting contributions to the well-being of children in the Chippewa Valley through their work, volunteerism, and/or philanthropy. The Children’s Legacy Luncheon also increases awareness of issues important to the health and welfare of children in the Chippewa Valley and raises money for the Children’s Legacy Fund at the Eau Claire Community Foundation, which supports grants to organizations that benefit children.  Each Honoree is invited to select a local nonprofit organization to receive a $500 grant from the Children’s Legacy Fund. The 2016 Honorees are: Julie Betchkal, Carol Craig, Sally Ellison, Mike Laska, Pa Thao and Sue Tietz of McDonough Manufacturing.

Nurse practitioner Lindsey Wayne recently joined the Cardiology Department at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. Wayne earned her master’s degree in nursing from Graceland University in Independence, Missouri. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from UW-Eau Claire. Previously, she served as a registered nurse at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, in the Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care and Perianesthesia Care units. She began her nursing career in the Critical Care Unit and Medical/Surgical Department at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.

SEEK Careers/Staffing, Inc., in a collaboration with Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), recently launched a new GED training benefit for its temporary employees and new applicants who do not currently have a high school diploma!  SEEK pays for classes, books and testing fees for qualified employees. The employees have the option of attending one of the MATC campuses or getting their GED online.

The Local Lounge has hired Joey Meicher as its executive chef. Meicher comes with a wide variety of experience both locally and internationally and will develop a menu that is a refined and modern twist on the classic Wisconsin Supper Club.

HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital has earned Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) under a national program aimed at helping patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in hospitals. Approximately 15 percent of hospitals in the United States receive this award. This year marks the 14th consecutive year the hospital has earned this national recognition. The QRCR program was started by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) in 2003 to help consumers identify those facilities using qualified respiratory therapists to provide respiratory care. Hospitals earning the QRCR designation ensure patient safety by agreeing to adhere to a strict set of criteria governing their respiratory care services.

HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital’s Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine recently received the ‘2015 Midwest Center of the Year’ award from Healogics, Inc. The hospital was one of only seven wound care centers in the U.S. to receive the 2015 award. To qualify for the award, healing rates of at least 91 percent in less than 30 median days must be met, among other quality standards.
