At its recent February meeting, the Eau Claire Chamber Board of Directors unanimously approved a resolution supporting Chippewa Valley Technical College's $48.8 million referendum, which will appear on the April 7 ballot in the 11-county district. The board voted after hearing a presentation from CVTC President Bruce Barker about how the funds would be used.
The resolution notes that CVTC "has a significant impact on the recruitment and retention of high-talent students to northwestern Wisconsin." The referendum, which would add about $13 per year to a property with an assessed value of $100,000, funds facilities to help the institution respond to increased demands for key occupations.
By responding to the needs of local employers and students, CVTC has seen increased enrollment over the past four years, serving a total of 18,595 students in the 2018-19 school year. The funds generated by the referendum would be applied to projects including a Transportation Education Center, Emergency Service Education Center, updates to the Manufacturing Education Center, and additional campus renovations and expansions.
