Full story. Sawdust City Sounds Like Home The L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire is seeking local musicians for its online streaming music platform, Sawdust City Sounds. Artists of all genres are encouraged to submit their music for consideration now through Saturday, August 31. Library staff and local music experts will select up to 25 albums that will be available through Sawdust City Sounds. To ensure that Sawdust City Sounds hosts a wide variety of music representing the current Eau Claire music scene, there are a few requirements for work to be considered: The collection will be limited to albums produced since January 1, 2014. Albums must have at least 7 tracks to be considered.
Sawdust City Sounds has opened up digital access to local music, helping listeners find what they’re looking for, and musicians build their fan base. Anyone will be able to stream the music; no library card is required. If you are interested in submitting music for consideration, please visit www.sawdustcitysounds.org/submit. The first submission round yielded 23 albums by local performers: Nick Anderson and the Skinny Lovers; Blixtfalt; CollECtive Choir; Eggplant Heroes; Jim Engandela; FM Down; Giants of Midgard; Greg Gilbertson; The Heart Pills; Sage Leary; LWB; Jim Nelson; Peter Phippen; picard; Jim Pullman; The Rattlenecks; The Rhythm Kings; Bethany Shuda; TeawhYB; Tonebox; Whale House; Wrestle the Reaper; and Yata, Sinz and Orfield. “As someone who’s absolutely infatuated with this music scene, I couldn’t be more thrilled with Sawdust City Sounds,” says Converge station manager and Sawdust City Sounds selection committee member Scott Morfitt. “The breadth of genres showcases just how blessed the community is with amazing musicians across the board. This selection offers a great starting point for anyone looking to see what the Eau Claire sound is all about.” Thanks to the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library Endowment Fund, a $200 honorarium will be offered for each album that is selected. While artists will give the library permission to share their music on the Sawdust City Sounds platform for at least one year, the artists will retain all rights to their work. Sterling Culligan Water Promotion Making a Splash in the Business Community It is with great pleasure that we announce the promotion of Ron Wampler to the position of area director. Ron will be filling the role vacated by the retirement of Darrell Sather, and he looks forward to making an impact in the local communities served by Sterling Water. As area director, he will be overseeing all five Wisconsin and Minnesota territories. Ron first joined the team in 2016 as general manager of Sterling Water’s dealership located in Rothschild, Wisconsin. We are assembling a world-class team that will launch Sterling Water strongly into the future and continue improving its offerings for all customers.” HSHS Sacred Heart Foundation Golf and Tennis Classic event raises $58,000 EAU CLAIRE – HSHS Sacred Heart Foundation held its 29th annual Golf and Tennis Classic at the Eau Claire Country Club on July 29 with 190 attendees, including golfers, tennis players and volunteers. Proceeds from the event – $58,000 – will benefit mobile mammography, which will provide better access to cancer detection in the communities the hospital serves. “Over its history, more than $1.25 million has been raised at the Classic to benefit patient care at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital,” Ann Kaiser, CFRE, development director, HSHS Sacred Heart Foundation. “It’s an honor to receive such extraordinary charitable support from our community.” This year’s Classic marked the 12th year of an annual tradition – the Thrill of Victory Award. Each year, the award is given to a hospital patient who has made an outstanding recovery in his or her health. This year’s recipient was Kathy Shear, who was diagnosed with breast cancer one year ago and is currently undergoing her final chemotherapy appointments. The radiology team at HSHS Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s hospitals was also honored with an award – the sixth-annual Heart of Excellence Award – for providing highly skilled care with respect and compassion. Next year’s Golf and Tennis Classic will be held July 27, 2020. HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital to host free Youth Mental Health First Aid class Aug. 15 EAU CLAIRE – HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital is hosting a free all-day Youth Mental Health First Aid class, open to anyone who would like to learn the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adolescents. This class builds understanding of the importance of early intervention and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. The course is designed for adults who regularly interact with adolescents. HSHS hospitals offer breastfeeding support group to anyone in the community EAU CLAIRE – HSHS Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s hospitals are offering a new breastfeeding support group open to any moms who’d like to learn new ideas, share experiences and gain confidence in breastfeeding. Led by a certified lactation specialist, the support group will address topics such as infant feeding cues, latching, milk supply, low weight gain, nutrition, pumping, breast milk storage and more.
