The commemoration was established in 1937 by grocer organizations sponsoring “National Milk Month.” By 1939, June became the official “dairy month” and is still celebrated today. For Wisconsin residents, this celebration seems to be especially significant as Wisconsin has over 9,500 licensed dairy farms and a million plus dairy cows, more per square mile than any other state.
“We know farming isn’t just a job, it is a lifestyle sustained by passion and hard work. We are happy to recognize those in our community who work on dairy farms and in the dairy industry,” says Stephanie Rasmussen, WESTconsin Credit Union Chief Experience Officer. To acknowledge our local dairy farmers and the industry, WESTconsin will have weekly giveaways throughout the month of June. To participate, please follow the WESTconsin Facebook page or visit the website at westconsincu.org to learn more.
