Back-to-Back Wins: Eau Claire Students Take Top Honors at State Civics Bee
June 16th, 2025
For the second year in a row, a student from the Eau Claire Area School District (ECASD) has taken first place at the Wisconsin State Finals of the National Civics Bee.
This year's winner, Leila C. from South Middle School, earned top marks in the statewide competition hosted by WMC Foundation in partnership with The Civic Trust of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. She now advances to represent Wisconsin at the National Finals this fall!
The National Civics Bee invites middle school students to engage in three rounds:
- Essay Round - Students submit an essay about a community issue and their solution.
- Local Competition - Top essay finalists compete in a quiz and live Q&A at the regional level, hosted locally by the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce.
- State Finals - Regional winners compete for state title.
- National Competition - State winner advances to the national stage in Washington D.C.
In 2024, Rya M. with DeLong Middle School won the same honor - making Eau Claire home to the state champion two years in a row. This demonstrates ECASD's strong commitment to civic learning and leadership.
The Chamber is proud to support this competition and promote civic engagement among young leaders. Congratulations to Leila, her family, educators, and ECASD on another outstanding achievement!
