A Dive into Campus Political Engagement

April 24, 2026

In an effort to highlight student civic engagement, the Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce recently surveyed student-led political organizations at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Both the College Republicans and College Democrats were invited to share their perspectives on the recent local election, answering identical questionnaires within the same timeframe to ensure a fair and balanced look at campus involvement.

What hurdles do you face interacting with professors, students, and online (both in general and around elections)?

College Republicans: No Response Provided.

College Democrats: "We have not faced any problems with faculty but struggle to engage students. We also have had a few negative interactions with students where they yell at us but it never escalates."

How did your organization participate in the Spring elections (e.g. advertising, student promotions/tabling, meetings)?

College Republicans: No Response Provided.

College Democrats: "We hold weekly membership meetings. We hosted speakers. We post frequently on social media. We table at least 2 times a week leading up to elections and all day on Election Day."

How (if at all) does the school support your organization’s political involvement?

College Republicans: No Response Provided.

College Democrats: "We work individually and have no real engagement with the University itself."

How do you decide which local races to prioritize over others? How do you decide which candidates to bring in?

College Republicans: No Response Provided.

College Democrats: "We invite all candidates/all races and anyone is allowed to speak at any meeting – unless specified otherwise. We try to have as many speakers to give students the opportunity to meet as many as possible to create informed voters."

Beyond a supported candidate winning or losing, how does your organization determine if your political advocacy/engagement was successful?

College Republicans: No Response Provided.

College Democrats: "We often try to focus on overall campus engagement, doors knocked, email/social media numbers, event turnout, and general feedback from students and members."
