The Eau Claire Chamber of Commerce hosted its monthly Eggs & Issues: Building Our Communities today. Panelists, Aaron White: City of Eau Claire’s Director of Development, Roy Atkinson: City of Altoona’s Assistant City Administrator, and Luke Hanson: Executive Director for the Eau Claire Area Economic Development Corporation (EDC) discussed the current projects and initiatives happing the the Chippewa Valley and addressed questions from attendees. 

The audience had the option to engage with live polling and anonymous questioning to provide feedback to the Chamber and the speakers. The survey results from today’s Eggs & Issues: Building Our Communities, show several clear priorities among participants. Housing was identified as the region’s most significant need, with 62.5% selecting starter homes. Attainable rentals received 17.5%, while affordable or income-restricted housing received 15%, showing that attendees see a need for housing options across multiple price points.

When asked about future land use in Eau Claire County, attendees were nearly evenly divided between industrial development (48.65%) and residential development (40.54%). Commercial, agricultural, and recreational land uses received relatively little support. Showing that both economic development and housing growth as major priorities for the region – with panelists noting they often go hand-in-hand. 

The feedback question also showed that our attendees preferred staying engaged with local projects, with in-person meetings and online engagement receiving notable support. 

Overall, the results indicate that attendees want to see continued growth in housing, industrial development, and residential development, while maintaining opportunities for public involvement in future City and County projects. Speakers noted the diverse range of projects happening in the Eau Claire Area to meet these needs. Additionally, our panelists encouraged involvement from the community to ensure local voices are being heard.
